Principle Investigator
Naomi Lee, Ph. D.
Dr. Lee is an Assistant Professor at NAU whose work is focused on novel vaccine development. Her research is rooted within Indigenous health disparities; weaving together the fields of biochemistry, vaccinology, as well as education. Her recent research is a cultural investigation to the persistence of Native Americans in scientific fields.
Graduate Candidate
Alana Ramirez
Her current research is focused on solid phase peptide synthesis. Previously she completed a BS Biology with Chemistry and Psychology minors. Alana is working toward doctoral studies.
Undergraduate Candidate
Amaya Pablo
Her research focuses on peptide development in conjunction with multivalent display of silver nanoclusters on virus-like particles as potent antimicrobials. Amaya previously worked with the Community Engagement Alliance program, documenting COVID-19 impact; developed accessible immunization information for Native Nations. She is a student of chemistry with a health professional emphasis.
Undergraduate Candidate
Marinca Faimau
Marinca is developing virus-like particles in for multivalent display of silver nanoclusters as potent antimicrobials. Prior to joining our Research Group, Marinca work with Dr. Christopher Kitalong, on nudivirus infection in coconut-rhinoceros beetles. She is student of biology and biomedicine.
Undergraduate Candidate
Elizabeth Pablos
Elizabeth's current research is focused on using solid phase peptide synthesis to optimize the linker between peptides modified with a methamphetamine hapten and virus-like particles as a potential vaccine against addiction. She is completing her Bachelors in Chemistry with an emphasis in Health PreProfession at NAU.
Graduate Candidate
Tawnjerae "TJ" Joe
TJ's is working on research of Native American cervical cancer health disparities through the lens of the vaginal microbiome whilst pursing an Interdisciplinary Health PhD. She was awarded Biochemistry BS by Fort Lewis College. TJ joined our Research Group after participating in NIH/NINDS Health Disparities in Tribal Communities Internship, JHU school of Medicine PREP scholar program, and Genomic Science & Leadership Initiative.
Undergraduate Candidate
Feather Eagleman
Feather's research focuses on virus-like particle synthesis for the purposes of conjugating murine Apolipoprotein-C-III peptides as a prophylactic treatment for cardiovascular diseases. Feather completed two years at Coconino Community College before transferring to NAU with the support of the Bridges to Baccalaureate program. She is now studying biomedical sciences at NAU.
High School Student
Sarah Hull
Sarah's research focuses on synthesizing virus-like particles to support the HPV vaccine project. They came to the lab after completing the CARE program and continue to do research while completing high school. Sarah intends to come to NAU to study biology.
Graduate Candidate
Tahj Moore
Tahj is conducting research in synthesizing Qbeta virus-like particles. He previously earned a BS in Biomedical Sciences from NAU and is now pursuing graduate studies. Tahj completed the Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates fellowship and the Ohiyesa Premedical Program at Harvard Medical School. Tahj is supported by the RISE program and aspires to become a hematologist-oncologist.
Graduate Candidate
Ashley Steinberg
Ashley is exploring conjugation techniques of silver nanoparticles to peptides. She has previously provided medical care as a flight paramedic, completed a Biology BS, and continues her academic career in graduate level chemistry course work.
Undergraduate Candidate
James
A member of MIRA, James is a co-researcher on the project for novel HPV vaccine development using self-assembling peptides. They are a student of biomedical science and Spanish modern langaguage.
Undergraduate Candidate
Ryan Iwahiro-Miller
Ryan is co-researching conjugated murine Apolipoprotein-C-III to virus-like particles as a prophylactic treatment for cardiovascular diseases. He is a student of biomedical science and chemistry.
